The Forgotten Ones
In small-town Florida, there's a little path off of a side road called Penny Lane. If you choose to take it, you will come upon a long-abandoned resting place for about twenty souls. The cemetery is called Fort Mason Cemetery and it is sadly evident that it has become the Forgotten Cemetery. The little cemetery is in such a state of disrepair, with crumbling stones and a dozen or so unmarked graves. Somehow, it draws you in still, and quietly whispers "remember us". The families there lived in a Florida settlement that is no more, as it fell victim to the great freeze of the late 1890s (as did many other ghost towns in the Sunshine State). Here are some pictures of the peaceful place, so that Fort Mason Cemetery is not entirely forgotten:

Huguenot Cemetery - St. Augustine, Fl
The Huguenot Cemetery is thought to be territorial Florida's first Protestant Cemetery. It was established in 1821. It is located in St. Augustine, just north of the old city gates. It is presently undergoing restoration.
Here are a few pictures I took this past weekend while visiting St. Augustine. The cemetery was open to the public, so I was able to walk around inside.
The character of this cemetery is evident with the contrasting styles of gravestones, box tombs, and so forth. The abundant trees provide a peaceful canopy and compliment the landscape.

Pets Bring Peace (Even After They Pass On)
I found this Pet Cemetery on a rural road one weekend. It was so peaceful there that I had to stay awhile. This picture truly reflects the tranquility of the place:
Pets really do bring peace long after they are gone.

Grave Beauty - Pictures
I have taken hundreds of pictures of cemeteries and, while some may consider that a bit macabre, I've found that there is a beauty and peace that exists in these places.
The photos I've taken only testify to the unique character that each location holds. Pictures have the ability move us in ways that words cannot...
